Wtf?

Every time I start a live chess game I lose on time immediately. Gutted.

Probably this: (from the Fair Play article)

On his or her turn, each player has 15-20 seconds to make their first move. If this does not happen, the game will be automatically aborted. This has a negative effect on the Fair-Play record of the player failing to move. (But if you hit Abort, it affects your record! It's best to be patient for a few seconds.)

First of learn how to put a question on forum table, silly!

johnhallberg

Thats not the issue. As soon as the game starts I lose on time and lose points

johnhallberg

How will that fix the problem? Silly.

John Hallberg, Make sure you have a strong connection to Live Chess. Your connection indicator should be green. If you have a yellow or red connection indicator, you are probably not seeing new games quickly enough. If you do not make your first move within 20 seconds of the game start, the server aborts the game and it is counted against you for Fair Play.

There are a number of things that could result in clock, lag issue  or disconnection from the chess server:

  • Not having cleared cookies & history in a long time
  • Downloads or uploads (even sending email) in the background
  • Instant messenger clients
  • Memory-resident anti-virus software
  • Other browser tabs with streaming content
  • Browser add-ons
  • Using a USB wifi key

Here are some things you can do to minimize the risk of disconnects while you play:

1. Use a trustworthy browser: Chrome or Firefox - not Internet Explorer

2. Limit your use of messaging clients, media players, YouTube (etc.), sending/receiving emails, multiple tabs or anything else that may consume a lot of memory

3. Do maintenance chores regularly, clearing cookies, history, temporary internet files ("cache")

4. Suspend or terminate any memory-resident software that may perform memory-intensive background operations

Shweta makes some good points. Sounds like your not getting connected to the game until the 20 seconds have already expired. This happens to me also at times.

Probably the best thread title I've ever seen.

Shweta missed one thing that could result in lag issues...
