Thank goodness we have a new kid on the block no more the normals who think they are the pretend King's of world chess, GUKESH proved himself most worthy. Even MAGnus Carlsen had to eat his words who gave him little chance, I fancied him at half way stage to win the candidates, how many knew so little about him, GUKESH was an International Master at 10 and a GrandMaster at 12 years 7 months his parents at his early years never let him near a chess computer, they wanted him to grasp the fundamentals of Chess at an early age and it would not be a surprise for him to win the next World chess championships and beyond he is the real deal for sure!!

They need a new seniors category for over 40s.

Yeah, they should create a new Elo system for seniors to keep some of these guys playing. I reckon they reach a stage where fear / hubris at seeing their rating decline effectively retires them.

But if they could play age categories with a different rating applied maybe...

Are you guys actually calling players in their 30s "seniors"? Lol.

Why TF would you create senior category for people who are just in their 30s? It's normal that you g players will be better and accept it, and move on.

I think it's a worthy discussion. The change is due to technology and aging in my opinion. There is more information readily accessible to a younger demographic than in previous generations. The game seems to be becoming very memorization oriented and that will certainly benefit a younger mind. Creating a "Senior" circuit could benefit the game worldwide without detracting from its popularity. This approach has definitely boosted ratings, participation, and let's not forget revenues in the PGA Seniors Tour. (Not to mention the Rolling Stones and Willie tours. 😉)
