It's a close contest with the daeth tarp thread, where opinings were invinted. By the way, what would a hare with a rocket look like?

Concerning the #1 post:there tons of games where a player sacrificies a lot of material for a fantastic mating compination....if this happened before we wouldn't have seen these chess masterpieces and chess wouldnt be the same so i think there nothing more to say in this forum....

Well, because because, obviously.

Is it really too much effort to read whole thread before posting ?

falcogrine

Yeah, almost a thousand posts, WAY too much effort. Luckily for me, I've participated through the whole thing, starting from page 1. I've read the whole thread, and probably dropped a couple hundred IQ points. Stay away, don't read it all! I concede defeat, a pair of because's stifles all doubts as to the authority of whatever you say!

You should automatically lose the game should you ever be down more than five points for two full turns.

So if you sac your Queen for a mate in four... you automatically lose?

YEAh and you Oppent might make a mistake

Hello. Are Kerry Shirts(The Backyard Professor)'s books worth buying?I heard he is one of the best chess authors out there and his books "The Art of resigning" and "Forced resignation" are really popular,so if any of you guys have em,are they worth buying?

Karmatica

This is ridiculous.  Especially at lower level games people make so many mistakes with their queens.  When you lose your queen there is a chance that after twenty moves they may lose theirs as well.  I've won and lost so many games that were "decisive."  And just the other day I was up by a lot and I randomly got check mated with a knight and a rook with the help of my pawns.  Chess should be played to the end, especially when playing under around a 1000 rating.

I'd like to see some mechanism whereby you can force resignation in a hopless case. There have been many times where I had a forced mate in one and my opponent just refused to move with half an hour left on the clock and only one legal move. There wasn't anything to think about. He just wanted to run down the clock and waste my time.

Colt has been making such mechanisms since 1836. I would not advocate forcing resignation, however. It is better to let your opponent continue to live with his or her delusions.
