It's an old book called "Judgement and Planning in Chess" by Max Euwe who was a world champion in the 1930's.  It is worth a deep study.

For casual reading, "The Art of Checkmate" by Renaud and Kahn and "How to Beat Your Dad in Chess".  "1001 Checkmates" and "1001 Tactics" by Fred Reinfeld, I believe.

my favourite chess book is van perlo endgame tactics. It basically a book about endgame and the tactics associated with it.Another book this time for tactics is tal winning chess combination. lots of examples given in this book about different mating pattern. It is a good book for pattern recognition.

art of defence in chess, both the old and new edition, written by Andy soltis. defence was an aspect of chess I never quite understood, and this book gave me a lot of insight. sometimes playing ftw is not ideal, and in tight situations, knowing how to defend is valuable knowledge. I improved by about 300 points here on chess.com, but thats just me, might not work for everyone.
