Discovered attacks. I have no idea why, but I find them satisfying to use.

Decoying / Diverting.

From one of my over-the-board rated tournament games at 40/2 time control.

Black has the f7 square protected three times.

A long time ago, there was great discussion about the Schmidlap maneuver, but the thread seems to have disappeared. It is forever lost to history.

Notice that decoying and diverting are almost always found together.

1. Bxe5 diverts the Black Queen away from guarding the f7 square... and also decoys it to a square on which it will be forked. 2. Qxd8+ diverts the Black King away from guarding the f7 square, and also decoys it to a square on which it will get forked. The two themes are commonly found together.

If you like tactical chess games, try this... my contribution to "Extreme Chess".

From the rated Malaysia vs Canada match. I was Black.

Kids, don't try this at home!

For some reason, every time I successfully perform a discovered attack, I say "Welcome to the Discovery Channel."

I don't know when this started, or why I still do it. It's not even funny. 💀

Bishop-of-hatred

interposing for sure

O-O

The double check tactic is generally very powerful.
