Your Most Important Piece: The Pawn Structure.

For some you beginners out there who think the pawn structure doesn't do you many favours, allow me to inform you of how important it is to keep it on the board.

The pawn structure does many wonderful things for you and your pieces such as:

  1. Provide protection to your king.
  2. Gives you safe room for your pieces to move around.
  3. Keeps the enemy from completly plowing you. :3
  4. Can be promoted to any piece that you need granted you can get it across the board

Imagine yourself with a weak pawn structure. What would happen to you? Your opponent would try to trade down. If they are successful in doing so, they will start going after your weak pawns. And if you has say, a double pawn, or an isolated pawn with defenders, well then you're f**ked. Losing your structure is losing the game as it will be incredibly easy for the enemy to mow down on the remaining pawns and start pushing theirs. This is why you must see your structure as one big piece. You cannot lose this piece or else you will most likely lose the game. This piece must also dominate the board before the other piece does.

Of course, this is my take on the pawn structure, which you do not have to consider at all and continue on your merry little way of playing Chess. Just something to consider whilst you fool around in the forums instead of studying to get better.
