2 humans real life on iPad - board flips issue

Sort:

Hi guys

I want to play a game with another human, in real life face to face, using one iPad to play.

I click 'play' > 'new game' > 'play computer' > then tap the computer icon to change it to a human (so white and black are both humans now) > 'start'.

The issue is everytime someone makes a move, the board is automatically flipped around. There is an option in the menu bottom left to 'flip board' but it's really annoying to have to do this after every move.

Is there a way to disable the auto flipping of the board? We just want to use the app as if it was a regular chess board sitting on a table.

Another issue, when we leave the game (for example click on 'lessons') it seems like we can not return to our game in the 'play' section. Is there a way to save a game so we can return to it later?

Thanks!!

To disable the flip, bring up the menu (the three lines at the bottom left) and chose No Flip.

As to saving the position, I don't know. Mine saved a position from when I tested it a couple of days ago but I didn't go into Lessons or anything like that.

Thanks for the reply. However, I do not see an option in that menu for 'no flip'. Just new game, switch sides, flip board, difficulty, copy pgn.

Maybe you are on an older version of the app (or I am ).

I'm version 3.3.38.

Is your flip option a toggle?

Thanks for the reply. The only flip option is 'flip board', there is no option to chose 'No flip'.

I am using version 3.2.47 of the app. But there is no option in the app store of my iPad to update the Chess.com app. All the apps on my iPad are up to date, if they weren't there would be a prompt to update them. Unless you know another way I can update the app?

Thanks for any advcie!

It's possible the iOS version hasn't implemented the feature yet.

I'm very dissapointed about this bug. 8 months and ots not fixed... Its not a proffesional approach I would expects.

Time to look for more professional app.

I a temporary workaround on iOS! When going to play vs. the computer, go to Layout -> Custom, and it will let you configure the board for any starting position you want. You can then move the pieces and treat it as a normal OTB game.

Captures work, but the custom layout editor won't prevent you from making illegal moves.

I reached out to customer support, and they said they'll be passing this feature request along to the developers.

An option to flip the pieces upside down on each move would be great for 2 people sitting across an iPad!

While we’re suggesting changes, I would like to use real pieces on my iPad running the chess.com app.  I should be able to use a physical chess piece to click on a square if the pieces have a conductive surface on the bottom?  The reason for this odd arrangement — real pieces resting on an iPad screen — is that I want to incorporate square highlighting to show which squares are attacked by which side (yellow highlighting for white, blue for squares controlled by black, green for contested).  The highlighting should automatically update after every move.

My request is to please include functionality for the aforementioned automatically updated color highlighting of attacked squares.
