2nd place finish

Actually, the issue is that we don't award 2-3 place awards for events with fewer than 13 players. Why? Well, 3rd place doesn't make sense in a 4 man tournament, so we thought about where that would make sense to have a 2/3 place, and we thought 12 people should be minimum to recognize 2/3. :)

Erick that's not fair, I came second in three tourney, and I was really proud of that fact, and you now say those postions are not important enough to be recognized.

Actually, Erik, I came second in the Belfast Cup which had 12 players. That hasn't been recognised in your assessment of my performance. As I am grovelling for rating points and recognition, may I ask why ?

If I were the boss:
- I would rename them "medals".
- 2nd place medals would be given for 8 and above.
- 3rd place medals would be given for 12 and above.
Though, to be honest, I don't know what the limits are on setting up tourneys for the various membership levels, or does that even matter?

is 12 a punishment for not having a certain level of membership perhaps? My gold membership only allows me to create tournaments of up to 12 players. Is that why it is 12 (either way)?
I would say 5 was enough for a 2nd to get recognised and 8 for a third place

But is getting 2 out of 5 people really enough to medal? Think that a 2nd place medal is what #2 gets in a 50 person tournament.
Just a thought...

Erik, It should be the place you came. I came second in the group (whatever the number) So The winner (hurray) came 1st, Queenie came second, someone become because third, and the rest become the losers. Ist,.... Second and Third place is recognised in any sporting tournament, or game all over the world, so why should chess be any different. We all know there are superdooper players on this site, but there are also a lot of players like me, who are still trying to learn, and improve. Difficult in my case I know, but to come second out of three/four/ six players whatever is a great achievement, and I am proud of that and I want it shown. Its not like we actually get anything for it. So come Erik do the right thing.

So how does not having a medal displayed hinder your learning and improvement? You seem torn between "it's no big deal" and "this is a huge injustice". Congratulations on your win man, it's still yours whether you get an arbitrary medal for it or not.

yoshtodd........ please read my comment properly before you put words in my mouth. No where did I say, that not having a medal hinders my learning and improvement. No where did I say, I won a tourney. I came second three times. and no where did I say that this is no big deal or hint that it is an injustice.
hey
I came second in this tournamnet
