i wonder if we can get an admin to pop in here if i say chess.com will it help...
there seems little point in not answering important questions by a bona fide (sorry) chess coach ... i mean they could just go somewhere else to achieve what they are asking to try to manage to do here on chess.com ...

The kid’s dad and I discussed Lichess. I prefer chessdotcom’s analysis board to Lichess “studies”, but my student must be able to move the pieces. If this aspect is eliminated for glitz, as it currently seems with the roll out of “Classroom”, then I’ll use Lichess.
Is there a user's guide?
I tried to use it with a student today and after a few minutes, we went back to using the analysis board as we've been doing for years.
Classroom was not in his menu, so I had to first tweak the url to get him to that page, then he could join.
He saw the board, but not me.
He could not use the pieces on the board.
Maybe the ideas behind this classroom are rooted in some other intended use, but I thought it was supposed to be a better option that will replace the analysis board (happily that has not been eliminated yet).
Classrooms are currently beta only, though non-beta members can join rooms.
The only thing I'm aware of is the News release about.
https://www.chess.com/news/view/new-classroom
my school district banned chess.com on the chromebooks because the catagory "games"
anything under that catagory that wasn't educational was banned since it was a "distraction" ROL

unrelated btw
Joseph that's probably what they told you but it is technically a site for adults and adult content does tend to slip through here and there.
I'm finding classroom very confusing. How can I teach a friend to do visualisation exercises etc? Seems to just be for playing normal games or set studies?
Never taught a lesson before using chess.com so any help appreciated

Have you looked through https://www.chess.com/news/view/chesscom-releases-new-classroom-feature
But it's primarily designed to go over games, game fragments, setting up positions, etc. It replaces the old Live Analysis board, though has added features over and above that tool.

Thank you Martin that is useful
I was actually looking for the live analysis board but I finally found it under live games
I don't see why they had to make it so that you can't practice your scenarios on the game itself. You have to go to classroom and update it with every move. I'm spectating a live game and it just says "your guess" when I move the pieces. Why? It was perfectly good as it was.

It does that in the Live Chess interface too.
Have you just played a game with a friend and would like to analyze it with them? Although there's no more "Live Analysis" like you'd find on our old Live page, you can still do the same thing (and more!) using our Classroom. Check out the video below to learn more about this feature:
For my student and I the classroom is a huge headache.
Just now we were both logged in to the live server and I started a classroom and invited him to it. Classroom tells me "Invite pending" by his username BUT over the phone he says to me he's there in the classroom. I make moves. He does not see them. So we are frustrated because several times we've already seen this type of disconnect between us while using classroom. It's a 'oh boy here we go again' thing. So I open a second classroom and invite him to that one. He doesn't get my invite. In fact did he even get my first one? Is that blocking the second? Who knows! So I closed both and started a fresh one. This time he gets my invite and it works. (We never had this trouble when we used analysis board...)
Secondly... other times when using classroom he and I are making moves on the board and he just stops seeing me do anything on his end. And the only solution is to close that session and make a new one and then try to reconnect with him and then pick up where we left off. And usually we've had to do that repeatedly in one lesson. (Again we did not have this problem in analysis board.)
Thirdly in analysis board I could invite him easier because there was a list of my friends who were logged into live server and I could just click on his name from those choices. In classroom you have to spell out their username which means remembering exactly what it is including weird spellings and numbers. (This third complaint is not the most relevant. The first two are.)
Fourthly, since I'm writing this I might as well include a request that has been living in my head for years now. There should be a toggle somewhere for how you want the path of a knight to light up (meaning I'm drawing arrows from a knight to a few of its possible moves. I want to chose between capital L shaped arrows or straight line arrows.) So many times I've almost made a swastika :-(.
Can we go back to being able to invite others to an analysis board until classroom bugs are worked out?
Experiencing same headaches at Chartman2:

And especially this:
"Can we go back to being able to invite others to an analysis board until classroom bugs are worked out?"
Classroom has been working, but often I and my student do not see a move the other has made while we are playing or analyzing. Also, the board will randomly jump to the main line (hidden from the student) instead of the line we are pursuing for instructive purposes.
It is indeed buggy, but the camera and voice is a nice addition. Formerly, we used the analysis board and the telephone.
