Do you know there is a disable chat button and a block button? These are quite good ways to prevent being abused. There is also a report button as well.
abuse
where is this report button?
First click "Help & Support" at the end of this page then scroll down a little. On the left you will see "Contact Support".
I think one chap has just abused me vebally .Take a look at this.ny one responsible sort this rot:
[Private Chat Removed by Moderator - Please do not post private conversations in the forums. Reporting abuse is the correct avenue for this type of complaint]
Report to Erik and/or Kohai, they'll respond to you quickly.
Actually, don't report to Erik at all, and don't report to Kohai by message.

I disagree that blocking chat is an ideal way to deal with such abuse. This blocks all players, not just the minority who are abusive. Better to report abusers, with the expectation that chess.com would switch off chat for anyone who is repeatedly reported for abusing the facility (or for one extreme abuse). Or maybe simply kick them off the site.
.... geographically abusive is negligent and regretful. thanks for nothing
We need to stand together on this, no way should someone get away with geographical abuse. Certainly, not where Canada's involved.
a) block the member (so you don't end up playing them again)
b) for really serious instances, submit a support 'ticket' (use the Help & Support link at the bottom of most pages, and choose contact Support)
A temporary measure already mentioned, would be to disable chat (you could leave it disabled, or, simply click disabled once abuse starts rather than putting up with 30 or 40 game chat posts of abuse).

@Elroch: Disabling chat does not need to block all players. If you go to your Live Chess settings, you can check the box that says "Auto-disable chat in all games (except w/ friends)." This would indeed disable chat against everyone. However (as far as I know), if you go into Live Chess with this box unchecked, start a game, and click "disable chat" in the game, this blocks chatting on an individual basis. This way, if you are playing against an abusive member, you can simply disable chat as soon as the abuse starts; then, when the next game starts against a different opponent, chatting should automatically be re-enabled. (At least, this is how it worked the last time I played Live Chess--which, admittedly, was almost two months ago! If anyone knows that it doesn't work this way anymore, please let me know.)

i think its absolutely ridicoulous i have to be verbally abused to play chess. if there is no recourse than to put up with it i will find another avenue to play chess and i will find and suggest another site to play with real people whom i have recommended to join. the fact there is no way to complain about people whom have no interest in playing chess without being racial or geographically abusive is negligent and regretful. thanks for nothing
