Hey chess.com team. I saw your plea for membership that you sent out today and I think you should offer the opportunity to donate as well. I'm like a lot of people where I can't justify a $30 investment, but $5 right now is really easy to do. You wouldn't even have to offer anything for people who donate at the $5 or $10 level. I just enjoy playing chess on your app and would love to give you $5. Again, I'm pretty sure you'd find that there are a lot of people like me out there. Thanks for building a great app.

 A one month gold membership is $5. Only downside is it is a subscription; maybe a non-recurring option would be nice.

 

Or, if you prefer to remain basic, you can gift another member a single month membership and that is not recurring; you might also be able to gift yourself when not logged in.

There is no catastrophe. It has been a while since I was basic but I'm pretty sure the upgrade messages were just as common in 2009 and 2010 before I upgraded.
