bad internet connection

Hi ,,,I am new here. Everything I do on my computer shows I have a good strong wifi connection except since I started playing here it shows a very poor connection and times out a lot. Does anyone know how I can get a better connection for playing chess. When I surf the internet and stuff I have no problems, but as soon as I play a live chess match it shows a very low connectivity bar and times out. All help is appreciated. Thanks
