Black won by abandonment?

Can some explain.  A 30 online play was just cut off by a pop-declaring Black won by abandment.  Black had 8 min. remaining,  white 23.  Black was in very poor position, and I would not have been surprised if black resigned.  What happened?

Reading other post suggests it would have been due to loss of connection during the game.  Okay, why declare a winner, and not treat is as an aborted game.  Why issue false losses?

Because then anyone in a bad position could just close their browser/app and get a draw !

Sorry, but if you lose connection you have to suffer the consequences.

Can you give me a link to the game?

Had the same issue today. Black has advantage but the end of the game was inconclusive. Black won by abandonment.

I believe the rule with abandonment is if a side doesn't make a move for 5 minutes, they automatically resign with black/white won by abandonment. I have seen it happen where I, as white had the advantage. Black, with 7 minutes left did absolutely nothing. At the 2 minute mark, I won by abandonment
