Blank White page when trying to start new game or puzzle.

As of today, January 21st, 2022 I have the white screen of nothingness when trying to play a game, or puzzle etc. I can see the main login page for the site, and then https://www.chess.com/home just fine, but when I click on 'New Game' a blank white screen loads.
I have cleared all my cookies in Chrome but nothing has helped. Please let me know if anyone else is having this issue, and what some possible fixes might be.

Running Version 97.0.4692.71 (Official Build) (64-bit) on WIndows 10 Pro.

Thanks

Hey,

i've the same issue for 2 days now... at least any other chess site is working so w/e...

Same issue here with Firefox, from the same time.

pacoruban

Same problem here with the latest version of Firefox (Safari works OK)

tomturbo137

Got the same problem too. Works on Edge but not on Firefox.

Popinjay42

Me too.  I made my own post about this as well.  Happened suddenly.

Firefox 91.5.0esr (64-bit) on Debian 11.2 here, I can confirm the problem of getting a white page for daily games, live chess and puzzles.

Firefox 92.0.2 (32 bit)  on Slackware 14.2 Linux .

Problem with white screen  for puzzles

Same problem here, though works fine with Chrome.  Seemed to coincide with sporadic YOUTUBE SSL handshake problems.  There is a thread on that somewhere, though I was not deprecating Firefox security to TLS 1.2... and it now seems to be resolved.

All the above were after updating to FF 96.0.2 (64 bit)

...I assumed this was caused by an FF update, backed out two revisions and the problem remained.  Then turned on FF troubleshooting mode and it looks like this problem is purely due to forced advertising on this site, which my choice of add blocker was impacting.  No problem starting the play screen with no add ons enabled, if you can handle the constant ads!   Other than using Chrome,  Lichess is looking like a better option.

So turning off any add blockers does resolve this problem, just tried after disabling the extension in normal FF mode, the problem goes away. Works fine in Chrome as i rarely use that browser - and it has no add on add blocking.  Pretty poor that chess.com reps have added nothing to this thread, for a subscription service it is not well supported.

Well if it's true then plenty of ppl quit watching twitch after their purple screen of death crap, so i guess the same will follow here after blank screen of death. Have fun on some other chess site :-).

Back again. It seems the issue for white screen bug that Chrome users were experiencing was briefly fixed, but is now back. When trying to access online games or puzzles the screen is totally white.

I have tried clearing cookies and disabling ad blockers, but this does not resolve the issue.

Chrome Version 97.0.4692.99 (Official Build) (64-bit) Windows 10 Pro.

PLEASE FIX YOUR WEBSITE

Have you disabled all ad blockers?

Yes that was the first thing I tried. I received an email from Chess.com support sometime last week, and they did say they were aware of the problem. I emailed them again to report the issue is persistent despite being briefly fixed.

Interesting.  After debugging this on Firefox and placing an ad exception for chess.com, the problem has not come back, though I can easily recreate it with Firefox by enabling ad blocking.  You could try running Chrome in incognito mode and see if the problem persists, or use Firefox or Edge browser, though also ensure you don't have any online content control in your antivirus.

The funniest thing about that is how they lied that they are investigating it and so on, even tho they already knew that it's because they made a change against adblockers :-D.

I don't believe any change was made against ad blockers, or if there was, no one in support knows about it. What is more likely is that the ad blocker changed and started blocking something it didn't used to block.

Just for more information, I use Firefox, without any ad blocker, and don't have any issues.
