Bot ELO ratings issue

I've had an account here for over a year and I've played hundreds of games, against live players and bots. My ELO is around 870.  I have played the "EMIR' (1000) bot a number of times and my recollection is that I beat him only about 30% of the time.

I came back in tonight as a 'Guest' and played EMIR (1000) again. To my great surprise, I beat him unmercifully and very easily. I took every single one of his pieces (42 points) while only losing a bishop and three pawns. It was like taking candy from a baby.
So now, here's my question: what is going on with how these bots play as a function of their stated ELO ratings? Is there some kind of a deliberate effort to make casual visitors who don't have an account yet think that they might be a pretty good player because they do well against bots who are playing a much weaker game than if they were playing against someone with an account? Is there a deliberate attempt to give bots ELO ratings that do not roughly correspond to their playing power under certain circumstances? Shouldn't a bot with a 1000 ELO be pretty closely equivalent to a live player with the same rating?

Pretty sure the bots play the same regardless of whether you're logged in or not.
