Bug: Cant go back after computer checkmate

Sort:
WarthogChess

When analysing a position I often like to Finish vs Computer to play various lines. If there happens to be a checkmate, there is no way to undo a move!  Computer play is practice and as with any other move, a checkmate should be able to be undone. Really a lot of clicks to get back to the move before, so can this please be fixed?

I am not sure if that's a bug. Game finished at that point

I'd really like this 'feature', too. While it may be functioning as intended, checkmate is a move, so why can't you take it back just like all of the other moves? It's super-annoying since noobs like me are too often surprised by checkmates.

DLarva

100% agree.  Should be able to undo.

rbairos

Yes please. This is maddening as someone trying to practise against a bot with friendly settings turned on.

Athelus_Rex

Agreed, I am trying to learn and the position disappears before I can even look at where I messed up, it is very frustrating

This is the reason I cancelled my subscription. Would spend an hour playing a specific bot, with multiple undo's along the way, only to have the whole thing suddenly stop with no warning.

tiltedtortoise

Yes, please implement this!!

DerekWClark

I would also appreciate this feature

jakekick1999

Please allow us to undo checkmates against bots

Happy4488

Surprised to see this has been wanted for two years. Let us practice our games, this really is needed.

designvoidnz

Yeah against bots this is frustrating, I would like to go back and replay from where it started to go downhill.

spy_gaming_tf2_real

I agree. I am the spy. Not the other way around.

QuOmega

@chess.com please add that feature like its already possible to take moves back and trace your steps but just having a click checkmate no further manipulations allowed .... its really frustrating!!!

diemeatbag

@chess.com when?

ahahah 4 years and they still didnt fix this? i love chess.com. but they are a monopoly and dont care. i see this in every monopoly software product.
The CEO would be really pissed if he is paying people to monitor such bugs and they ignore them for years.

Undo after the game finishes is a basic feature and it is missing! Why is sor hard for chesscomm devs to understand this?

I've just started playing and also thought this option would be useful. For anyone wondering, there's an adequate workaround.

In the app:

  1. After checkmate, select the magnifying glass (Analysis) in the upper right
  2. Select the position you want to start from at the bottom. It starts after the turn you select. So to start on your turn, select the previous bot turn.
  3. Select options in the bottom left and choose Practice vs Computer
  4. Click the gear icon in the upper right to adjust bot ELO and other options like feedback

If you get checkmated again, you'll need to repeat these steps. ELO saves between practice sessions, but other options don't appear to carry over.

On the website:

  1. Just above the move list, to the right, click the compass icon (Explore)
  2. Select the target icon at the bottom (Practice vs Computer)
  3. It will start at Game Over. Close that and adjust the bot and settings as needed
  4. Go back up in the move list and choose your starting position

Unlike starting from Analysis, it will start before the turn you selected. And if it's the bot's turn, you need to move it the first time before it plays for itself.
If that's confusing, then on step 2 select the magnifying glass icon instead to launch Analysis. Then select your starting position from the list, and then click the target icon in the bottom right. This follows the same process as the app.
