Bullet time issues?

Sort:
Avatar of Fakenicker

I just lost a game of bullet. I moved instantly, almost every move. And after many moves my opponent thinks for 5-10 seconds, moves, and then _my_ time has been reduced by up to 10 seconds!

Even premoves had that effect. I thought premoves would go on the server immediately regardless of any connection issues. This makes it feel a bit fishy.

1. There are rumours about clock hacks. Are there any?

2. How can I make bullet playable, if there are random 10 second delays now and then for my clock?

i'm very sorry for that task is truncated seconds during the play where up to 15 minutes at the end of the game. This is a very strange thing

Happened again, but in a 10 minute game.

Me have 29 seconds left on the clock, and king+queen+pawns on board, him just king. In those 29 seconds, I manage to do _four_ moves, of which _all are premoved_. Then my time is up. Every premove takes 5-10 seconds off my time. That is not right.

never happened to me, must be a technical difficulty

Fakenicker, how are you playing on Live Chess, using a computer and laptop, using an app and mobile device? Can you give us some details, please?

It happened to me (26 seconds, two premoves) the next game after I stopped recording to produce this video: http://youtu.be/cu-FPYGD1Cs. I wish I had kept the recording software going.

Question: What Is a Lag Switch?
Answer: lag switch is a mechanism installed on a home network that allows you to insert delays into the flow of local traffic to the Internet. Lag switches are normally used by unscrupulous players wanting to cheat at online video games. Lag switches are unrelated to normal network switches.

Design of a Lag Switch

The basic lag switch design is a small Ethernetdevice where either the orange or green wire of aCAT5 cable has been spliced to a push button or other physical switch. This hardware is connected between the game device (PC or console) and the home network router (or modem if no router exists).

Operation of a Lag Switch

When the switch is activated, the device is designed to function for a few seconds on a timer, effectively blocking all network traffic between the local game device and the Internet temporarily. Used during gameplay, the device causes the person using a lag switch to appear to opponents as frozen while in fact they are still able to play locally and gain advantages in the game. When the lag switch timer expires, the local game device will resynchronize with the online game that appears to opponents in a sudden burst.

Reputable online gamers do not use lag switches.

Was using a desktop computer, but with a mobile (4G) broadband connection.

This is still happening. Premoves can take 10+ seconds to perform. Had 11s left, made a premove, but lost on time without my premove being done.

If you move fast you get more time (i'm not saying to move really fast)

Looking forward, this issue will always exist until they develop something that uses the internet connection as a determination of who who's playing each other. For example if a player has a range of internet connection, the server will then have a tournament system that promotes players with that connection.

This issue has been the epitome of my daily qualms. Why? Well though I've been playing chess my whole life informally, chess.com and lichess are socially prevalent and provide somewhat official ratings. Not to mention how the brain feels after being seemingly swindled of time, focus, and skill.

Looked it up and heres an explanation.

Same here, strugling for several days with the same bug. Even if moving if trying to move sometimes this bug appears and apparently my times shows my time -10 sec (or around 10 sec).

Annoying and no explanation for this to stop happening found as for now.

I have a similar issue where I can premove my king back and forth with 10 seconds left and without checking me once my opponent will win on time. That should be impossible if they aren't premoving right?

Depends on how much time they had left and how fast they were moving.

I've noticed this too, in my last several bullet games - premoves sometimes lose as much as 10 seconds from the clock. My guess is it's related to the ongoing server issues. For now, I've solved this by switching my faster games to [the other site], and only playing Rapid or longer here.

To be honest. Looks like the developers intentionally add delay to your moves.

When I am on winning streak I never face this issue. And suddenly on the same network it would start lagging. If i turn on my screen recording timer works correctly.

Bullet lag is atrocious. Just lost a game with 0.2 seconds left even though my next premove was checkmate. And for the third time my scree says checkmate when it’s my move and then after the fact changes to a loss because of time. Fix the problem please.

Twice in a row, watching my clock go from 27 seconds to zero as my opponents went from zero to 27 seconds. Collecting vids since it is becoming predictable.

Are you on the iOS app? There's an issue with some games and staff are aware. There's should be a fix coming soon to help with it
