109.36 yards, to be more precise.

109.361329833771 yards

That level of precision is scientifically invalid because of the number of "significant" digits right of the decimal. The precision you indicate is on the order of magnitude of millionths of a wavelength of visible light. How would you propose to measure it, especially once you've crossed into the realm of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle?

 OK.

what's that in furlongs?

Well, let's see, 100 meters is 54.68 fathoms, and there are 110 fathoms to the furlong . . .

How many cubits is that?

Uh, hang on, OK, got it now, would that be Royal Egyptian cubits (1 cubit = 52.35 centimeters), English cubits (1 cubit = 45.72 cm), Egyptian cubits (1 cubit = 45.0 cm), or Roman cubits (44.4 cm)?  Sheesh . . .

I might as well invent my own.  I hereby declare that a Cystem cubit is defined as equal to 47.3 centimeters, except on Tuesdays, when they shall be 47.4 centimeters.

Just from one comment the topic goes from the speed of the Tactics Trainer clock to a discussion about measuring units. I love you guys.

rooperi

so, what is the average speed in furlongs per fortnight of an object travelling 10 cubits in a minute?

Hi-

I am older and do not play blitz or even anything like it.  I keep getting my tactics trainer rating dropping because I get penalized for being slower.

Can you have a blitz and a standard clock, like they do at chesstempo for example, please?

Thank you.

The only question I have is "why".  Why didn't America go metric with the rest of the world?

In the 70s my dad worked for the local railroad and they were in an uproar due to the cost to retool their entire eastern seaboard operation.  So they didn't want to spend the money along with other corporations.  They lobby washington and spend money stopping it and we are where we are today.. :)

Remember when Nasa lost that space probe because they made one calculation in inches instead of centimeters?

This post is not about units of measurement.  As far as I know everyone in the world uses seconds, minutes, and hours.  As far as the tactics trainer, I do not agree with getting a negative score for completing a tactic correctly but taking "too long".  I think the number of seconds for some of the tactics is far too long and others are far too short.  However, I should NEVER get less than 0 for completing a tactic correctly.

That was the Mars Climate Orbiter I referred to (item 11).  Unless they did it again . . .
