This is why it happens: some programs, e. g. firewalls, use a so called ImproveNet list for blocking web advertisements. Because the item "bn.*" is on the list, and "bn.gif" is the name of the black knight picture in the Java chess interface, black knights are not displayed. You probably use some software with this feature and you just need to turn the feature off, or, if possible, remove that particular "bn" item from the list.

A report of success applying this information.
"It was the firewall after all. Couldn't find it's name so had to disable the function tho."
Here is my ImproveNet list.
I can not see bn.* but I have the same problem with knights....

You can't edit ImproveNet list, but you can to turn off.

For some reason I can never see the black knights on the game explorer or live chess. I'm a premium member, so seeing my money float off is annoying.
I have the latest version of java installed, a healthy computer with no spyware, malware or viruses. I've tried to clear my temporary files and disable my firewall for 10 minutes, and tried to restart my computer but all has made no difference. Please help !!
