The site is working with the third-party CDN provider.

Tried logging into Chess.com today and I can no longer see the board.

Tried hard resetting (ctrl+f5) and clearing my cache, neither seemed to work.

From what I've seeing it is impacting some Canadian members and some from Portugal and appears to be related to the CDN the site uses to serve cached images from servers closer to members.

Confirm the problem in Portugal on  Firefox and Edge even after full cleanup of the browser.

I'm one of those Canadian members who is having problems with images in the site. Blank boards are hard to play on... SO ! For some unknown reason, try switching to 3D pieces, I know it sucks a bit, but at least they display and allow me to continue my games.

ANATOLYSH

Still black screen and there are no squares seen. Even with 3D pieces it is impossible to play. I activated a vacation time. I have no idea if or  when they are going to fix it.

Oggy01

I just made a couple of moves in a daily tourney, 3D pieces but no board.

I've seen a few posts saying that.

DrZaius1963

It's back. Woohoo, now I can get busy losing some games!

Martin_Stahl

Staff are saying it should be resolved so those are good signs.

SWAB0

Mine has been resolved finally.

Mine was back to normal, but now things are acting up again

It works now but what was going on?

The site uses a third-party Content Delivery Network (CDN) for hosting of static assets, such as images and maybe other things. That CDN has servers all over the world that will serve up content to clients that are close to them, which will improve load times.

It appears that the provider had an issue with a some of their caching servers, at least for the site, and the site had to work with them to resolve. I haven't heard what the exact issue was regarding them, and probably won't, but they did something on their end to fix the problem.
