Can't sign up for @chess.com email

How do I sign up for an @chess.com email address? I have tried clicking on the link from within my account which says "click here to sign up for your own @chess.com email address" - this takes me to the account profile page - I fill in the field for THISNAME@chess.com and click submit....

This simply reloads the account profile page.

What browser and operating system are you using? Did you try clearing the browser's cache? Are you browsing using a web proxy (which often messes up chess.com scripts)? Does this issue apply to every time you do this?

browser is not using a proxy server, javascripts and other scripting languages are enabled.

the issue DOES NOT apply every time i try to update the page. it seems i am able to update my name almost every time. I am able to update my location almost every time.

Try Firefox and not a niche browser as Chess.com has hard time supporting those.

It reloads the page if the @chess.com email address you're choosing is already in use by someone else.

So for example, if you chose 123@chess.com  chances are high that someone else already has this one, but if you chose something thats unique    @chess.com
the chances are very low that anyone else could have that.

It doesn't have to include your real name or your Chess.com username, it could be anything you want.

Fails in Firefox 3.6.9 on Ubuntu; Firefox 3.0.x in Windows XP.

Other fields are also not retaining changes: time zone, OTB rating.

Are you clicking on 'Save preferences' at the bottom of the page after making changes on that page?
