It should show up whenever one of your friends is online. It's an opportunity for you to challenge them. If someone challenges you, it will show up on your Current Games list.

Hi,
When I pull up my Friends page there is sometimes a small icon saying "challenge" inderneath the photograph of that person. At other times this icon is not shown.
Silly question, but does that mean it's an opportunity for me to challenge them, or them offering me a challenge?
