Changing Level of Difficulty, Both with Computer and Live Opponent

Avatar of lblau

Hi,

Can someone help me?

I am pretty awful at Chess. Please, is there any way:

1. to get the computer to treat me as a real low level player when I play against it? Further,

2. please can I get the people I am matched against to be near my level, that is, also quite poor at chess?

I would appreciate it if someone can answer both of my questions.

Thank you!

Larry

For playing vs the Computer just set it to it's lowest setting. That is as low as it goes. If you are talking about the Computer opponents in Live, Computer1-Easy is the easiest.

On players, when you send out random seeks, you should get people pretty close to your rating. You can set some parameters when you create the seek to limit it some by creating a custom challenge.

A lot of the personalities are premium only but you can challenge Komodo all the way at the bottom and choose the rating there. Or, I believe all the ones in the left column are available and the bottom one, Danny, is 2500

Hello!

I would like to know how I can change the difficulty level when playing against the computer?

I haven't played for a long time and now I can't find that settin.

Thank you

I think 3 people asked "how."  I think they would like to actually be told what area to be in and what to click on.  That's just my simpleton observation.  I am having the same difficulties as the question askers here, but there is no "how to."  Have a nice day

Yes! Same problem here - how exactly can I change my computer opponent? Right now when clicking "play computer" - program starts every game with opponent named "Wally" (1800 rating). How can you change it to lower rated opponent - where is this setting, cant find

When you first get in, you should have a screen to choose the bot.

Hello!

This is The_Chess_Egg.

Alright, I know that this comment was back in 2021, but I will tell you anyway.

Go to vs Computer, then scroll down to 'Engine' and then, from there, click on the engine, and you will see a little slider and then you can adjust the rating. Ratings go from 250 to 3200.

Alternatively, you can also select a different chess bot, and see their rating until you find the rating that is just right for you.

If you do not want to pay to get chess.com gold, platinum, nor diamond, you can just use the engine.

Hope this helped, and have a good day! happy.png

This is chess.com, so not pertinent to the discussion about bot personalities here wink

What are you talking about?

Chessmaster invented robot personalities.

I use the original word "robot" instead of the abbreviated "bot".

Full disclosure, Martin.

Do you work for Chess.com?

Are you here to talk about Chess.com?

And nothing exists outside of Chess.com?

I'm losing hope in human kind.

There is a kind of sociological amnesia. Amnesia is a real disease. But nobody understands the concept of social amnesia.

Folks, computers have been around since the Atari 2600.

Chessmaster has sold millions and millions of copies.

Now it's free on emulation.

For a game that dates back to the days when we fought with elephants, you guys really have amnesia.

And "atari" means "check" in the game of Go, a game that stretched back beyond recorded history.
