Regarding the "Chess Talk" issue, I can't help you with that, you should contact and admin if that problem occurs again. But, Chess.com does have an IM option. At the home page with all of your correspondence games, there is a boz with all of your friends at the bottom right corner of the screen. Click on it, and it will enlarge. Then select your friend and you will be able to IM.

I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but I was in the "Chess Talk" room with a friend and we were trying to talk, but I could not for the life of me keep the page at the bottom where all his new messages were coming. It kept going to the very top of the page and I would have to constantly scroll down to see what he was saying. I was also trying to copy and paste something he said, but it ended up being impossible because I was never able to find it with out the page moving to the top again.
(we were also saying that it would be nice to have an instant messaging option)
