Cheaters :(

I swear, I fricking hate hackers. They're online chess, of all places. You know, Pausing the clock and giving themselves infinite time, cussing me out in the chat for no reason, and somehow making my rooks just vanish. You know who you are, [removed-- MS].
Your opponents can't impact your clocks, give themselves more time, or remove pieces that weren't actually captured.
Around the time you created this topic, there was a site issue that impacted a lot of games, so that is what you were likely seeing
As getting cussed out, you can directly report them to staff but please don't publicly report in the forums.

Which game?

I did report the person but nothing happened
Reports are not immediately handled so it can take time. Also, you may not know of any action taken as the process usually starts with warnings, followed by mutes of escalating amounts, up to account closure. Staff don't contact reporting members about actions taken.

Which game? My last game against Castmasterr. (yesterday 4 november) I don't know exactely what happens, but there was a problem whith the time. He suddenly have more time (in a lost game) and me, as it was at him to play, i 've been declared lost on time.

I gotta say I didn't expect this thread to get flagged so quickly. I kinda just wanted to vent about hackers

It's possible it was regular disconnect issue from the live server and when your client reconnected everything updated.

I feel like they've stopped even trying to catch cheaters. The first week I was here, they were responsive and giving me points back... now, a few weeks later nothing. Nothing at all. I get throttled by 700-rated players with a 100% engine match in a G/2 game and they still won't do anything about it. I wrote a forum post just asking a technical question re: why no responses to cheating reports anymore and someone locked the post immediately. Then I wrote support and got no reply. I truly believe they've stopped trying (like Lichess did), and just don't want to make this public. The total lack of response to cheating reports seems to coincide with the app update where the game analysis mechanism was altered, so I'm guessing they're getting tired of paying for so much compute processing and trying to cut these costs? Some explanation would be nice-- feels like I'm wasting my time reporting these people at this point, and wasting my time playing engines when I want to compete with just real people. I wish chess.com would have a separate area only with verified human beings, each account tied to an ID and real names... no more silliness... you cheat or misbehave and you never get back in again.

That is absolutely not true:
https://www.chess.com/article/view/chesscom-update-november-2024#FairPlay
The site closed over 70,000 accounts last month for fair play violations. It's also true that the vast majority of members are playing fairly and if you're reporting accounts and they're not getting closed in a few days then either
- There is insufficient evidence of cheating
- There is no evidence of cheating

Martin-- are you absolutely 100% sure, as a technical resource on this site?
I'm not really talking about "last month". I specifically said that in my first week they were pretty responsive on these reports. I'm talking about in the weeks since then. It doesn't make sense to me why I was getting so many messages about points being restored and now I'm just getting none. People didn't just stop cheating. I'm trying to figure out if reporting someone has ANY effect, or if it's like pressing the fake button at a crosswalk.
Your response doesn't address that they're not answering my query about why I've stopped receiving cheating report responses altogether. I've even written customer service, which they keep saying to do in these forums if there's a problem.
Finally, you're completely ruling out, without evidence, that 1) there may be a bug with the reporting mechanism, 2) there may be a bug with the detection mechanism, 3) there may be a bug with the notification mechanism, 4) they've actually now stopped in at least some capacity, 5) other possibilities. You're essentially saying I'm wrong, without any evidence of that either.
Also, I really like the idea of eliminating anonymity and mulitple accounts in online chess. Real people, real names, real ratings, each person tied to a real ID and a real credit card... it's time for chess to grow up. There could be a "verified" pool and an "unverified" one and verified players could choose whether to get matched for games in one pool or the other (or both, and whether to prioritize matches from one pool). If someone egregiously misbehaves or cheats, then that ID and that credit card can never be used again. Why not!

To a certain extent, I agree. This is my 3rd week playing, and I got no response after reporting close to 10 people who were obviously hacking. Not one got a response. While I understand that this is a free website, millions play it every day. I created this thread to see if this subject can get some attention from the devs or community support team, because I can absolutely say I'm playing someone where the game does not go normally one in every three games. That's a third of the people I'm playing. Please, I just want to play Chess.

@justaguyincolorado reporting is working. The site has metrics on how many reports are submitted and if they saw a massive fall off, they would look into it. They also have a variety of automated processes and a whole team working on detection and closures. Those haven't decreased.
In your first few weeks, you were in a different pool of players, so that itself will have some difference in the likelihood of account closures. Many of those were likely accounts in their way up (newer ones). As your rating established you're likely playing fewer new accounts. The incidence of cheating is extremely low, so having a high first week is going to be uncommon

If you've contacted support and haven't received a reply, I can't speak to that, just that if you're reporting and accounts aren't being closed, they fall into one of the two mentioned categories.
Regarding a verification program. The site tried that and it had a very poor response and was discontinued.
