Community Guidelines violations

Just know I received this message after reacting to a topic.  It took me a while to figure out what I had said that could be a violation of the community guidelines. After looking into the rules I realized the violation wasn't mine, but was hidden in the original message.

There are several ways wrong with the way this website handles this.

  • The rules seem a little strict, because it was obviously an automatic process triggered by a specific word. It was not a real violation of the guidelines in full context.
  • The second problem was that I was simply quoting someone else. I think I've seen members complain about that before, so I'll leave it.
  • The third problem and this is the issue that bothers me most: My entire post was gone immediately. The standard way to handle this on other websites is to show me a message with the warning and take me back to the message with the problematic words highlighted. That way I can adjust my message and resubmit.  This is not the first time this happened to me. This time I lost a post that I had spend 10 minutes on, but I have at some point lost 45 minutes of types because I had inserted one abbreviation in my message that was considered a violation. Maybe this is a chrome (desktop) issue, but it's really sad to see the effort I did just vanishing unexpectedly.

Excellent suggestions.

Yes, I’ve also created threads on this issue. Somehow the quoted post remains, despite containing the alleged violation.

100% agree. There are few things more annoying than spending half an hour on a very well worded, kind and thoughtful post only to receive a threatening message and have the post auto-deleted.

Even worse is getting muted for quoting a post that someone else authored without repercussions. Has happened to me twice.

The last time it happened, I made the effort to remove the offensive word, having previously learned my lesson. Alas, the word appeared twice in the post. By contacting support, I was able to get the mute lifted in a mere 23 hours. I missed participating in some discussion in a vote chess game as a consequence.
