Toward the end of analyzing my game that had 34 moves and I won with mate, instead of numbers, I was getting "Mat01" or "Mat05" or some such.

What does this mean?

Why did the numbers stop?

How would I know what the overall score was when it ended with "Matxx"?

If there had been a number, what would it have meant?

Thank you in advance.

Mat01 symbolises mate in 1 and Mat05 is mate in 5 .

Loomis

"Mat01" and "Mat05" indicate there is a forced checkmate in 1 and 5 moves respectively.

Because the score is an estimate relative stength of the position for each side based on material and position, checkmate does not have a score. There is no relevant number to assign to checkmate.

Some chess engines will use some large number to represent checkmate, but there is no real meaning to this number, it just has to be larger than any other possible score.

Makes sense, Loomis and KK.  I thought it was talking about MATerial and I couldn't understand it at all! :)
