Daily Chess players and fair play rules

Sort:

I have played several matches in daily chess where the moves played by my opponent seem to be way above their ranking. I know that you can use a chess opening explorer however did not think that you can use anything beyond that. Am I missing something in the rules that allows other outside sources to be used?

Is there a way to report such players or that is just part of the "online" experience?

You have been a member for 6 years.  You should know how to report someone.

1. You could navigate the site to find out.

2. You could do a search.

3. You can wait for someone to tell you.

No offense, but for a 700 rated daily player, very often moves selected purely at random will seem "strong" for an opposing 700...

No offense taken at all. I can understand some moves appearing that way however it is the amount of "strong" moves that a player makes that seems out of place for another player of the same rank. I would expect a mistake or inaccurate move versus strong move after strong move.

Looking at the games you have lost over the last couple months, I can assure you that none of your opponents are utilizing outside help.  Most of them make 1-move threats and you either ignore the therat (hanging pieces) or try to counter attack (but end up dropping a piece due to counting errors).  This is not uncommon at your rating level.  What is uncommon is resigning as soon as you drop a piece.  Masters do that because they know their opponent has the technique to finish the game, but when your opponent is <1000, you can be assured that they will more than likely blunder away such an advantage and it would serve you better to continue playing.

Thank you for that observation Zac. It appears I have a lot more to study and will endeavor to finish all games played from now on. I do appreciate the informative response and look forward to studying this game for years to come!

Excellent advice Zac. Neofelis happy learning.

It's because they have time to meke strategy in daily chess. but in case of 5 or 10 min chess some people can't think deep. for example some people slow but genius and some people fast with and best precticed.

Well , I was never interested in daily chess because I thought it was too open for cheaters , and likely can be.

But also consider this ...I started because I joined the New Zealand club , and tried to join my very first tournament , but could not because I need to complete 10 daily matches before I can.

So you would get a shock if you played me , because my default start rating is just 800 lol , but I am about 1800 , I have even achieved a rating of 2010 on chessmaster9000 after 40 games , so I am not a novice , you would definitely think I was cheating if you did not know this.

So because of this fact I cut and pasted the same message to all 10 opponents I started games with tonight , telling them this fact , I thought it was only fair to warn them , it was appreciated too.

Also I have just been on the recieving end of this issue , my good friend  "Husssy " , who I have been playing OTB for 20 years now lives at other end of NZ , so we just started online 2 weeks ago , he started at 800 , beat him in several games and reduced him to 700 something ( I do not understand this , he should increase in strength after losses to a stronger rating ?? )

Anyway , I lost a game trying to force a transposition out of borring 2 nights defence , hoping I could get a Evans gambit  type game lol.

Point was I got a crushing blow to my rating smashed down to 1400 something , because he is really about 1600 rated imo.

If you did not know this and played him you would also think he is cheating.

I am impressed so far , clearly none of my opponents so far are cheating , you can tell with a quick look at their game history .

Of course this is all new to me , being able to look at notes , books or even database as I understand it looking at rules.

Personally I do not do this as I feel like I would just be copying someone elses moves and not actually playing chess.

That said in one game I had a quick look at the Najdof to just get an idea of first 4 to 6 moves as I am not familiar with it and play other versions of the Sicilian , just to make sure I did not get off to a bad start.

I do all my study before games , I am studying a few openings very intensely over last month , and the one I am most interested in playing at mo is not my usual main weapon the Sicilian , but the Evans Gambit , having a lot of fun with iton Chessmaster9000,  but have not discovered a single person online yet that has played Bc5 lol , usually comon.

Anyway , not all is as it seems , you could come across a very strong player rated 800 lol

Check out what I mean , in my games against Husssy , he is a bit rusty at mo , but not 700 rated lol.

Same with my dailys I just started at 800 , first completed game went to 1164 or something like that.

Note that checking books, videos, even game databases is 100% legal in daily chess:
