Firefox lagging

Sort:

Hi,

you see I have this problem - when playing chess here or elsewhere in my updated Mozilla Firefox browser with pretty much no addons, the game seems laggy and unstable. It is very hard to explain but it just is not so clear and fast as on Google Chrome with the same settings browser I used before and I cannot find any way to make it work properly.

It is especially annoying whn playing 1 min games where the speed is essencial.

Thank you for all your comments, responses and suggestions.

When you say "pretty much no add-ons" which ones do you have?  Also,  which version of the site and are you utilizing the browser to do anything else when playing?

maelic

Pretty much no addons mean only Adblock Plus which is turned off for chess.com. Turning it on or deleting it does not help.

I am currently using the new chess.com but switching back also does not help.

Usually I chat with friends or browsing web but even closing all those tabs and playing just chess does not help.

Clearing cache also does not help...

Make sure you've updated to the latest version. Maybe you should try resetting Firefox?

Martin_Stahl

Stupid question, but you don't have Flash loaded or if it is, is Firefox set to keep it disabled for the site?

Martin_Stahl

It is also possible there is a connection problem between you and the servers. I don't know exactly where the other server you have issues with is located but I'm asuming the US.

Well,

I noticed this slowing tendency only on chess sites when playin superfast time controls.

I have of course the latest version of the browser and I tried to reset it, delete all caches (history also - simplay everything I could) and nothing.

My internet is pretty good - 200 Mbit/s so that should not be the problem and ping usually under 50 ms.

Right now I tried my friend's computer with fresh installed Firefox and it does the same thing!

As of flash I installed it after I encountered the problem and it does not seem to change anything.

Martin_Stahl

Flash can cause issues, that's why I asked.

I lean towards an issue between you and the chess servers, if nothing is causing it on your local devices or network. Especially since it impacts two different sites.

This site is hosted out of California and the other is out of France. So, if it is network related, it would probably be on a hop closer to you.

maelic

Yeah well, why does it affect only Firefox and not Chrome then? What is the difference?

Martin_Stahl

I misunderstood. I read it as you were having similar issues with Chrome.

Might be a bug with the Javascript engine in Firefox. Exactly what version are you using?

Also, maybe check out the following.

My firefox version is 44.0.1 - the latest one.

The hardware accelaration I already found and tried with no results sadly...

Martin_Stahl

So, the latest general release. Some people use the betas and some user the developer's version, essentially the alpha.

It looks like that version has some network and WebSockets updates. Might be related.

If you are not on v3 of the site,  I would suggest testing there as it uses updated code.

maelic

I am using v3 site, but v2 has the same problem...

Firefox has been laggy for the last month or so on all websites for me.  Not just Chess.com I would suggest changing to chrome until Firefox releasees their next rev.

maelic

Hmm, I will probably have to although I am not very happy about it. I quite like Firefox now

NotRightStateOfMind

Hey guys, I found this thread cause I noticed the exact same thing. I have both browsers open (Chrome and Firefox) and Chrome is infinitely better. You guys find anything else for Firefoxe's lag?

MickinMD

I don't play faster than 10 minute games and haven't noticed any problem with Firefox loaded down with all kinds of extensions and plugins as well as relatively slow DSL service.

But if I was going to do a 5 min or faster game, I'd simply use Chrome.

Sadly the situation stayed the same here - I did not manage to fix it NotRightStateOfMind.. sad.png

Thanks guys I'll let you know if i find anything to resolve it.
