Must be the result of a pawn promotion. When a pawn reaches the 8th rank (as far as it can go, the end of the board) it must be exchanged for any piece of its own color, except the king or pawn.

When a pawn reaches it's 8th rank it promotes to any piece other than a King or Pawn. If I uderstand your question correctly, that is what you are seeing.
