Free 10 day trial of premium membership?

So I'm seeing this message popping up every once in a while.
Chess.com gives you a 10 day free trial and doesn't ask anything for it.
Curiously, I have not seen any forum about it, nor anyone talking about it, so I remain skeptical.
What's the catch, if any?

Simply, they show you the things you can do being a premium member, like a free sample. Sometimes free samples help people to decide to buy a product.

I understand that, I'm just skeptical about it, guess it's my nature.

They will require your credit card number to give you this free trial.  They do this for a couple of reasons:

1.) To make sure that people don't just keep taking the free trial over and over again

2.) So that if you want to continue into a paid membership, you don't have to do anything else.  After the 10 day trial, your card will be charged and a recurring payment will be set up.  This is meant as a convenience, but a lot of people don't see it that way, especially if they don't realize this is going to happen and suddenly see their card has been charged when they didn't expect it to be.

Note that this means that if you don't want to go into a paid membership at this time, you have to cancel before the 10 days is up.

Actually I just realised this.
I clicked on it, and it asked for my credit card number.
So in fact, there is no free trial.
It's the same as paying and then deleting the membership before the first 30 day is over, only it's set as 10 days.

So there's a catch, after all.
Thank you.

If you get a membership and cancel it within the first 30 days they don't charge you anything?

There's a 'no questions asked' payback guarantee.
But I suppose if you do that several times, they block your ip or your credit card number.
