Game Abandoned

Hello, I was playing a live 15/10 game, went to the bathroom for two minutes and came back and lost because it said my game was abandoned. Even if my internet signal went out for a minute, I would think there would be a way to give a person a couple of minutes to recover.  Because of this I'm going to cancel my account (JAN 2024) and play live chess elsewhere although its possible the same thing will happen there too.  I realize you all have to deal with ways to prevent abuse and cheating, but the way things are now seemed too tight.  It's not like I'd  run to an engine those two minutes and look for a good move. The game was dead even (Berlin Defense) Has anybody else had a similar experience?

yes i have . i dont know why a person is not permitted to use the amount of time given however they see fit.  if both players signed up for a 10 min game then they both have agreed to that time frame. having a person leave is not polite but i do feel its within  their agreed upon game duration.  big question tho is how do they know you left and werent just looking for a move?    is there an unmentioned rule in place that a move must be made within 2 min or something like that?  if there is   then there should be an extra timer for indicating that so a person would know. so  im with you on this greg. that shouldnt have happened.     but on a side note i dont know why they even have that time frame available .    that time frame is practically unending.

but i hope you dont leave over it,    just a game.   i know its not about that .  but its better to fix the situation than walk away or at least to know what that parameter is  so you can work around it.   if you find something out let me know. if i find out ill let you know.   i do know that they have set algorithms up to deal with situations .   and that they need to be fine tuned to the best possible setting . but that process is like a pendulum swinging. it takes time and management to find the right balance. it was set in place to deal with a real problem of immature sportsmanship that we have all come across from time to time. unfortunately you got caught in the overswing of a solution. i am sure chess. com  was trying to deal fairly with the problem of rude people quitting.   they most likely will have to hear as many complaints about the solution to that problem. before they can prioritize a correction for that. im sure they have heard about this but not nearly as much as they have heard about quitting issues.    so it might be a long time before it makes it near the top of their to do list.      my advice   send a note  or let it go.   but dont leave.    perfection is a very difficult expectation to achieve .  most of the time  it is a lot of fun here.
