Game aborted when my opponent was losing

I just (about an hour ago) had an experience where a game aborted just as I was winning. We were 33 turns into the game and I don't know how it happened. The game also doesn't seem to appear in my archive. Is there any way my opponent could have done this on purpose? If this is my fault, is there any way I can avoid this in the future?

I would have thought this would still be a win for me by abandonment, right?

That's correct. Games can't be aborted after moves have been played. It's possible there was an issue on the back-end and the game was dropped, though I'm not aware of any recent widespread issue like that.

Same thing happened to me as I was gaining an advantage on my opponent. Most likely due to the server maintenance. I just wish it had been announced...

Scheduled maintenance is announced. There's a banner in Play starting an hour beforehand. But you are correct, it was due to the maintenance, which included a live server restart.
