Games Explorer 'Master Games' option

The Game Explorer 'Master Games' option displays many games that are not master-level. This could give people false impressions about various opening lines. For example, see the thread, "Game Explorer reveals strong uncommon openings?" where it was believed that 90% of masters fell victim to 1.Na3 (whereas against masters it only seems to score 8%).

I wonder if there's a better word to describe what the database contains?

For example, under 1.Na3 see Guk-Jadenkus, Vilnius 2000. FIDE has records on both players and according to them neither player is a master.

Also when you click on 1.Na3 it shows four Internet games from Bill Wall... which then disappear when you click on 'view all games from current position'.

I had a look at that too.  I'm not sure what dbases are loaded but I hadn't actually expected that all the proponents would be masters deespite the title. Buyer beware indeed if you slavishly follow the stats w/o looking at the games and players...but if that's what you use it for you deserve what you get imo.

I realise that wasn't your point likes forests, just something I've noticed abt a lot odf people in the vote games who just go by the stats on XXXwebsite.com etc.

On the other hand in support of your point a friend noted that there were games by 1300 rated players , so it isn't quite what it says on the tin as the saying goes....

yeah. we'll get these ironed out :) some games need to be dleted, while some non-master games will remain. any suggestions on a better name?

Yes, even when the database contains only master games it's not enough to look at statistics alone. Often a line will survive a few years, then a super-GM comes along and busts it... with the consequence that's it's no longer played. The line may still have "high winning statistics" but it's a poor line against prepared opponents. But statistics are still interesting and useful in many or even most instances. :)

"A Million Games". Not creative, huh? It's hard to think of a name that encompasses everything it contains. That's why I didn't propose anything originally. ;)

"FIDE/USCF Games" more accurate than "Master Games" but not all-inclusive.

"Tournament Games" may be confused with chess.com tournament games?

"Over the Board Games" mostly accurate, but a mouthful.

"OTB Games" mostly accurate, but cryptic for beginners.

Maybe after a player selects a database a brief description could be displayed at the top of the page, eg, "Includes games from world championships, FIDE tournaments, etc."
