A greeter is a member who when someone new joins Chess.com is automatically (through the owners of the site setting it all up)  put in touch with the new member by a message appearing in their message box. The message informs informs them what their greeter's name is, and that the greeter (when they are next online) will be informed that they have just joined the site, plus that the greeter will play their first game of chess with them on the site, this game being already set up by the owners of the site. The message also lets the new member know that if they have any questions about the site their greeter will answer them all for the them. I really enjoy being a greeter, I get to meet lots of new people and I play up to 30 games at a time, (you can choose how many game you want to play, take into account you also play your own rated games alside these new member games). I have played over 200 games as a greeter now, and because they are all unrated. It does not affect your rating. So you get to play really great top notch players as well as learners. I love it. Plus if you change your mind you can always untick the box in your settings to stop being a greeter. Go on give it go.
