There isn’t a lot of FIDE rated tournaments around my place, and I would like to get a FIDE ID without playing an OTB tournament

I want to get a FIDE ID because I want to play FIDE arena online and get online ratings but not OTB ratings. I don’t want to have to wait until the next OTB tournament to play a get a FIDE ID (we don't have a lot of those per year)

Is there a way for me to get a FIDE ID right now?? And do I have to send in ID identification or documentation??

You can only get a FIDE ID through a national organization. If your flag is correct, check with the Bahmas Chess Federation: http://www.bahamaschess.org/

They should be able to help.

I think you can get a FIDE ID by subscribing to a Premium membership on FIDE Arena. I think your online rating will then be displayed on the FIDE website (but I'm not 100% sure).

@hicetnunc Would it be displayed near my actual name though, on a normal fide profile like this: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=4100018

You mean like this: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=1518526

This, newer and active profile has Online rating section too.

That's under "get rating":

FIDE Online Arena is upgraded with new features and launches a new promotional period for new members joining in until May 31st, 2015.

  • Chess players who already have a FIDE ID number benefit a full membership until May 31st, 2015.
  • Players who do not have a FIDE ID number need to subscribe for full membership (the annual fee of which is only 25 euros) and in return, their membership is extended until May 31st, 2016.
  • GM/WGM and IM/WIM are entitled of a lifetime free full membership.

@NewArdweaden Yea, so I don't have one of these profiles right now. So does it mean when I start playing online arena games and get a rating that a profile like this will pop up for my name. e.g. http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=4100018

If you pay the subscribtion fee of 25 € you'll most likely get a profile like this: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=1518526 with your name 'pop up'. You'll be unrated except for "Online chess".

@NewArdweaden This is what I want to hear. OK, I just got the membership, I'll start playing games. Would be nice if someone confirm this.

Please, get someone to confirm this before you do any transactions, I'm not 100% sure.

Great!

So I manage to get a FIDE ID after getting premium membership on it. I'm unrated for everything. Time to start playing!

I notice you are still playing a lot on chess.com despite recently getting a premium membership at FIDE Arena. Any particular reason why?

Also, are you having trouble getting FIDE rated games as others have previously mentioned? Some have found it so difficult in fact that they have cancelled their membership altogether. I am curious in your responses as I am considering joining for a similar reason.

It's easy. Just sign up for some tournaments (preferably the FIDE only ones, but ordinary ones should also get you a couple of games each).

You have a CM over-the-board? The "titles" provided for FIDE Arena are not likely to be accepted as titled for chess.com purposes.

Martin_Stahl

Ah, gotcha. Congrats.

Yeah. I'm sure of this.

Not sure how a CM after a few online games could carry any real respectability.

Something doesn't add up here.

No FIDE ID, but you played in FIDE tournaments and got a CM?

kleelof

In 1 monnth you went from 0 to CM? That's amazing. Pehaps you could share the secret of your success.

I didn't go from 0 to CM. I've been playing chess all my life, in junior and national tournaments, I just never played in FIDE tournaments before, university schedules/work, local availability etc.

Sure, I understand that.

What I meant is you went from having no FIDE rating to a CM in one month.

From what I understand, it can take hundreds of games to reach even the lowest masters titles.

I really doubt that. If you played in Zonal Oceania, there is no way you could possible win vs 10 title players there. I am sorry but i thing you are lying

The claim is of a CM title which only requires the rating, not norms. A strong player doing well at a longer event could possibly get the rating needed for that.
