How are draws figured?

I am being asked to draw the game so my opponent can move on to the next round. My rating is 100 points higher than his. What will accepting his offer of a draw do to my rating? The game has barely started. Stwils

Click on the Details tab to see how much your rating would drop.

The real question is why there is an issue with, shall we say, relaxed play when the tournament conditions encourage this?

1 - one game per opponent starts immediately rather than both games

2 - Max Avg Time/Move restriction not used

3 - Two players advancing in each group

Just curious, is the request coming from your opponent, or from someone else like the TD?

I know what my response would be to such a request, but the moderators would censor it.

Check out this link http://www.chess.com/tournaments/help.html#tiebreak , it states that if two players have the same score and same tie break score, both will advance.

It's up to you if you want to continue the game, but by accepting the draw, you will still advance to the next round and only lose about 7 Elo at the most (since you are the higher player.

...

The tie break is not needed to differentiate places one and two since two players automatically advance from each group.

It does come into play for aboalram if stwils loses. In that case three players would advance.

I can only tell you what my answer would be. But if Cystem_Phailure's answer would be censored, mine would probably make the site explode :) I actually think that this site needs to change the rules for people going through to the next round, especially in head to head elimination, where an even score advances both players. Sadly it entices cheating, I know most people would say it's just two people agreeing to draws, but in my mind it's pure cheating.

If I were the person currently tied with the OP for 2nd in that pairing, I'd file a complaint.  If the OP agrees to a draw in his game, that person gets elimintated because the OP would have sole possesion of 2nd place.  But if the game continues and the OP loses, that person would advance to the next round along with the OP.  So this is not a case of a draw not affecting the standings.

EDIT-- sorry TadDude, I didn't catch your last line in which you had already pointed out how aboalram is affected.

Aren't you here to play chess?  Play the game, this isn't the WCC.
