Which ads do you mean? When do they come up? How do they interrupt you?
How do I stop the upgrade ads?

I've been getting upgrade ads (sometimes) when I try to go from my home page to my online chess page. I mean the ads to upgrade your account, since as a Gold member I could upgrade to platinum or diamond.

maybe it's the chess Gods trying to tell you something!
They can tell me by email, snailmail or ESP instead

It's actually pretty easy. Just go to this link:
http://www.chess.com/membership.html?c=navbar
and upgrade

I am fairly sure your two options are to upgrade or abandon the site. Its the internet. It comes with ads.

I believe until you hit the higher echelon of membership levels, you're going to continue to see the ads.

I just became a Gold Member in order to play in more than one tnmt, and as a paying member I DON'T APPRECIATE being interrupted when I'm working on my online games (or at ANY OTHER TIME) by ads to upgrade my account, which I have NO INTENTION OF EVER DOING if the ads don't stop.
Who do I complain to around here? I thought one of the perks of premium membership was no more ads, but I guess I'm wrong. And this is not being anal retentive, the ads WASTE TIME (mine) loading and don't seem to stop as fast as they started.
As a gold member you shouldn't see any ads on the site other than the Thursdays chess ad which only appears on the sites front page.
If you are seeing ads as a gold member, can you make sure you are definitely logged in. If you confirm you are logged in, can you take a screenshot of the ad you're seeing for me?

This is happening to me otoo - but only recently on the iPhone app with the new Live version (I play on an iPod iTouch).
To save you some time suggesting:
- Yes, I have logged out and logged back into my account again.
- Yes, I rebooted my iTouch.
- Yes, I checked for upgrades from the iStore.
I know I'm not Super Premium (Diamond/Platinum), but sheesh - I joined primarily for the 'no ads' aspect - not just the other benefits of 1st level premium.
Not only does it distract from already-paid enjoyment (worse than a Coke ad in a Star Wars movie), but it takes up valuable real estate on an alreay tiny screen. I hope it was an oversight by the code-jockies and not blatant product placement by Marketing.
Seriously... another $20 per year just to get a truly ad-free mobile option to an already paid-for site? If Chess.com absolutley needs to rake back revenue to develop the Live feature in the app, consider an ad-free 99-cent version for premium-paying folks?

Let me ask you two, Rose & Wood, a hypothetical....
What if you paid for the Netflix streaming membership and then at some point they "finally" made it available on your mobile platform. How would you feel if they said well, streaming would have embedded comercials for Netflix DVD membership in mid-stream, unless you upgraded to that option?
This has already happened within the airline industry. Have you turned to other fliers and told them to "shaddap and just pay the extra baggage fee" while you meekly fork over the extra fees just because you're "an adult" and "can afford it"?
Bringing up a seeming injustice or pointing out a possible technical error makes me neither immature nor cheap.
If it was intentional, Chess.com arguably pulled a bait-and-switch on us - albeit situational. If they have a glitch, they would likely appreciate the heads-up.
Stop jumping to conclusions - the legs on cattle aren't evolved for that. Just follow the rest of the herd and you'll be fine.
Giddyap.

Ask eric about it.

I saw a recent Chess.com Twitter post that explained there is a bug that is causing Gold members to see ads. They are working on a fix. No need to upgrade further.

Premium members shouldn't be seeing any ads on the app at all and we are
working on correcting this.
Please bear with us while we create a fix and get it onto iTunes for you. We are trying to get this done as soon as possible for you.
