How does Chess.com know for sure when someone is really cheating?

I really want to know this because lately I've been drilling Chess pretty hard and have been studying a lot of theory.  If my level just improves dramatically in a short time, and I'm all of a sudden playing at a 2200 ELO level or higher, what assurances can you give me that you just won't assume I'm cheating?  I'm paranoid about being punished for improving.

You have been a member for a long time so you should certainly have seen that 1) chess.com doesn't reveal its methods and 2) chess.com doesn't allow discussions of cheating detection methods in the forum.
