How on Earth can such things happen? (Related to daily chess vacation)

Not one, but three weird things have happened to me related to daily chess vacation time.

1) I had been gifted 2 weeks of diamond membership. Some days ago, I wasn't in the mood for chess, so I decided to test the auto-vacation feature, and indeed my games went on vacation mode. But then I noticed that my vacation time was 20 days and some hours. But I haven't gone on vacation in years, so I should have 30 days available, afaik.

2) Some days passed and I was still on vacation. Yesterday I was alone at home. I had logged in the site, but was AFK doing some other stuff. When I returned to my computer (which had gone in idle mode for power saving), I saw a new notification telling me to check one of my daily games! It was one of those you get when there's less than 8 hours for your move in a game. It showed I had 7 hours left for that game. I panicked for a brief time, cause I realized my games had gone out of vacation, and I could have timed out in some of them! But fortunately, that hadn't happened, and I set them on vacation again (I had more than 15 days left).

3) Another weird thing is that in the game with less time, which had triggered the auto-vacation, I had only 50 minutes left to move when vacation started, but now (right after I set my games on vacation again, see no.2) in the game with less time I have 3 hours left! (And I'm not even sure it's the same game, I don't really remember, but it probably is)

Can someone give an explanation for those things? And I hope those issues will be resolved and won't happen again.

As for vacation, I've noticed that the time is dispersed amongst all games.  So, let's say I have 50 daily games in progress and I set my account to vacation mode.  I'll run out of vacation time quicker than if I was only playing 25 games.  I don't know how this works but it chews up the time a lot faster, in my experience.

Now, I do see that you said you DO have vacation time left.  This, I cannot answer as to why it would automatically go off vacation status as long as you had time remaining (unless another game triggered the release of vacation time?).  I'll leave it at that or I'll confuse us both!

....

When you're on vacation, it doesn't matter how may games you have going on. The days spent in vacation is all that matters.

If you make moves in games on vacation, the vacation is turned off. Going on vacation also uses 24 hours minimum, so if you go off vacation before that time has elapsed, your bank is still decreased by the full 24 hours, with the difference in the time being added to all games where you are in the move, up to the time control, with the exception of no vacation games.

I know you didn't write that in response to me, but I didn't make any moves in any daily game. I was steadily on vacation for days, until this thing I described in no.2 and no.3 happened, while I was logged in c.c but away from my computer, and alone at home. But even if I had gone off vacation, how can I gain time in a game, and go from 50 minutes left to 3 hours? (wtf)

That sounds like going on vacation and turning it off before 24 hours have elapsed. As mentioned, the act of going in vacation automatically deducts 24 hours from your bank, so if you remove the status before that time has been used, you don't lose the vacation time since the difference gets added to your games where you're on the move.

I can't really say much to your specific case, if you didn't make any daily moves during that time.

Hey Spyros!

Well, to be gifted diamond status is great! Maybe the person wanted to be anonymous? That's pretty cool! Great features as a diamond member but I have never been so maybe you have more time than a gold member for vacation? Here's my experience, as a gold member.  I'm not sure it answers your question but...

That's not the point of my thread, but I'll answer some of what you said. My diamond expired earlier today. I only used to to do many tactics puzzles and get insights for my games. I know exactly who gave it to me (a staff member) and the reason why. Diamond members gain vacation time faster, and have more vacation days available at cap (There's a different cap for vacation time, and different rate of vacation time gain, for different membership statuses)

As I said in my post that you quoted, I didn't make any moves in any daily game, and I was on vacation for about 5 days, when those weird things happened.

OK, please listen to another weird thing that happened just a little time ago, when I got out of vacation.

In my four games with less time, I had 3 hours for game A, 3 hours for game B, 3 or 4 hours for game C, and 7 hours for game D

I have set my daily chess so that when I make a move in one of my games, I will be taken automatically to the next game.

The first move I made was in game A (the move that got me out of vacation) and I was automatically taken to game D instead of game B !?!?... Notice that game D is the one I got a notification for some days ago, and what I describe in no.2 of the OP happened.

I closed game D without making a move, and loaded game B, which now showed that I had 4 hours left instead of 3..!?! When I made a move in game B, I was again taken to game D, instead of game C..!?!

I closed game D without making a move, and loaded game C, which showed that I have 4 hours left, but I'm not sure if it was 3 or 4 before.. When I made a move in game C, I was correctly taken to game D

My guess is that something weird had happened with game D, because of what I described in no.2 of the OP and what happened today. Notice also some weird happenings with the time I had left in some games, like what happened in what I describe in no.3 of the OP.

Game D is this one .. https://www.chess.com/game/daily/373848323

Oh, one thing I can add, that might help staff members to understand what caused those weird things to happen, is that my opponent in game D (against whom I play 2 simultaneous games) has gone in and out of vacation a few times during our game. Maybe there was some "conflict of vacations"? I have no idea... I hope someone can figure it out

So, had you been on vacation less than 24 hours? If you had that difference in time would get added to your games.

No, I have been on vacation for about 11 days straight, with the exception of what I described in the OP. I was steadily on vacation for all the days between what happened in no.2 of the OP and today.

@Martin_Stahl And please read post number 9 here, in case you missed it, cause we posted almost simultaneously
