I've been having the same problem. I've gotten up 200 points in the passed few months on longer time controls due to finally getting my stuff together but my blitz is just terribe.
How to become a good blitz player?
Trying to be a good blitz player without being a good chess player, is like trying to master F1 racing and not being a good driver.
well, i was once a 900 blitz player (ok about a year ago!) and now i almost peaked 1800, i slowly improved my 10 minutes, then went to fast 3 minutes. Now i do drop pieces on occastion and do blunder, but i see things quickly. Remeber your rating is not the key, the key is your skill. And improving your skill at the cost of your rating is a good thing to do.that is my approach.
Actually, no one answered the OP's question. Take the member named I_Am_Second. He doesn't even play blitz chess and doesn't have a single game of rated blitz chess experience on chess.com. Click on his member name and see for yourself so that you get an understanding of that Twit. Would you want to listen to someone who does not know what the heck he is talking about and who posts comments on topics that he knows nothing about?
If I were you, then I would ignore the morons and fools who wish to lead you down the path to mediocrity.
I have noticed that the above members are touting the value of being a slow chess player or a highly regarded FIDE standard chess player. That has nothing to do with your topic.
Blitz chess is the true test of one's chess abilities because you need to be a good player as well as quick thinking. You need to assess a situation, make a decision and do so in a time controlled environment.
To answer your OP (original post), read my Chess 101 in the General Discussion and I believe that it will help you. In the end, you could listen to the countless grandpas of chess and the ignorant fools who claim to be skilled chess players who never play blitz chess or frown upon those who do OR you could listen to someone who plays nothing but blitz chess and is a proven B.A.M.F.

Cocky doesn't even apply here, Sir. He made a statement that was fundamentally ridiculous. It has nothing to do with my personal opinion on anything.

You're really an unbelievably dense soul. Grandmasters, FM's, IM's, teahers, websites, instructional videos, etc - ALL emphatically instruct improving club players to avoid playing blitz chess. This is not ME stating that his opinions are fundamentally ridiculous, this is the chess world stating that. I'm just echoing what is iron clad, commonly known fact in the chess world.
If you can't follow this logic I really don't know what to tell you. A few of you really don't seem to understand conversations at all.
You even sent me an email telling me that Yasser Seirawan instructed you to play a lot of blitz to improve. No he didn't. I have three of Seirawan's books and all he says is the same thing every other GM says: Avoid playing blitz chess in favor of more serious chess play and study.
No GM would instruct a club player to improve by playing a lot of blitz.

Also I never once said that he told me to play blitz OVER standard games I just said he told me to play blitz. and having a high blitz rating is good for your slow chess.
Now i'm going to stop talking with you Warbringer33 because your cleary a troll and I could just spend my time studing and playing chess rather than talking with an idiot who won't take advice from a player who is clearly stronger than he.
I just hope No one of chess.com will ever listen to you.
Look, some of you, regardless of what you know as a result of being told by others and from your own research, will convince yourselves that long hours of blitz chess each week are helping your long chess out tremendously. The fact of the matter is that it works the other way: Hours upon hours of study and long chess make you better at blitz. I mean, this is - once AGAIN - just totally accepted fact in the world of chess. So, whether or not you want people to "listen to me" (again, we've established that it's not MY advice), you can rest assured that most of the players who are getting good OTB are not doing so by playing a lot of blitz chess. They're actively avoiding it as they're being instructed to by everyone, including their coaches. This is just how it is, man.
So go play another 4-5 hours of bullet. You're obviously free to do so. Don't expect to come on a forum though and make claims that it's beneficial to your chess growth without expect numerous people to disagree with you.

Fine last comment because this made angry, WTF dude YOU have not read a word I have wrote and what do you mean good OTB rating you know i'm better than 95.1% of all chess players?!
I never said 1 bullet was good for your chess or 2 that blitz was better than standard!
What I said was (for the idiots out there)
here is what you said DO not play blitz it makes you worse at chess and does not help with study.
If you play a LONG time control game let's say like G90/30 INC
and Don't go over it
Or play a blitz game (G/10) and go over it for 30 minutes you learn more than if you play a 90 minute game and don't go over it.
That is ironclad if you disagree you are a moron.

....
Hi!
I would like to become a better blitz player. When I play a long match, I am not that bad and I can find some good ideas.
However, I am a very bad blitz player. Playing blitz for me is like having a cloud about my head. It becomes very hard to find good ideas and to do not blunder. I am always very nervous.I am in a situation when I must become good in blitz(too long to explain).
Is there any way that I can become a good blitz player quickly?
Thank you! I take in account any good suggestion!
