This is a very sexist statement to make.
chess scares a lot of people off. just to learn the game is a commitment, to become any good is even more so. and going beyond novice...pretty much requires some dedication to the game.
i think it's interesting to see games using the dynamics of age, gender, or social strata being used against people's expectations.
but really... chess is a game that appeals to people for specific reasons. it's like trying to get people to read for pleasure. if you're not the type... you're not the type.
Yeah, chess is great fun and there is something in it for everyone. People dont know what they are missing! Sometimes im glad other people dont play chess. Its nice to find those who share the same love for the game knowing there arent just playing because its popular (*cough*poker players*cough*). Chess is another world really and those excluded from the game are definatley missing out.

a chess and beating a guy, and whose
older than her, I was so thrilled. So I
think, the best thing to encourage
other to play chess is to show
them that chess is fun.
