If you see a username you would really like but it's already taken. Not all hope is lost! Requesting an inactive username is very easy and simple. Here are the steps to getting your very own cool username (you need to have any tier of premium to do this!):
Step 1: Find the name by searching through members on chess.com. You can do this by going onto the side bar and hovering over social and clicking members.
After doing this you can search any user on chess.com.
2. After finding a name you would like you have to make sure the name has been inactive for at least 3 years. You can do this by going on the profile and looking at the activity log. (For example you can see that the users inactive and dormant have both been offline for 3 years.
3. Next go to https://support.chess.com/article/346-contact-us and request a ticket for INACTIVE USERNAME, do not request a ticket for a random topic since this could alter the results.
4. Write a kind and lighthearted message requesting a username to the support, it can sound something like this:
Dear Chesscom support,
I would really like the name [instert name], this is because the name has been inactive for a long time and it is a name I have wanted for a long time, [give reason for wanting name here].
5. After doing this Chess.com should respond in about 5 days but be patient.
6. You should have your name after this so enjoy the name.
P.S Remember its only a chesscom username so do not get too upset if support do not give you the name as there is usually a reason for this.
