The only remotely plausable reason I can come up with off the top of my head is that you're using internet explorer.
And if you are- stop it. Stop it right now.

Friends don't let friends use IE.
The computer runs on Java, however, so make sure these files are up-to-date. If you're using windows, you should have a Java icon come up when you load the page, if not, try http://www.java.com/en/.
