Ha, ha, u'r absolutely right there, chess has not changed! (well the shape of the chess pieces have and the names).
We no longer refer to the Horse, or the Castle/Tower.
Years ago, the Castle/Tower was referrred to as the Warder.
I believe the photographer of the Isle of Lewis chessmen, did not know much about playing chess, and maybe that is why he set the chessboard up that way.
I have spent hours, days in the British Museum of London. It's a fantastic museum. But in those days, I was not a chess player, so I do not recall seeing them.
Where I live, (across the pond), they are still referred to as "horse" or "tower".

re last post i am a dimwit i didnt read the smallprint what might help is control and f5 together a hard refresh this has resolved this problem for me
