Or you could cut them some slack over what's probably a bug. I'm always set to not renew and I've never had a problem. Additionally, if you were charged, they give out refunds.

Hello,
After many difficulties (dead links, hard to find infos), months ago I managed to cancel auto renewal of my 5 years long platinum membership. At least, I thought so, as when I click on the link provided by chess.com (http://www.chess.com/home/cancellation.html?type=membership) it tells "Your Premium Membership is already set to end on 3/8/16. Please contact support if you have further questions."
How wrong was I.
I just received this mail:
Your Credit Card on file has expired!
Your subscription is set to renew on 3/8/16 and your credit card on file has expired. Please update your card info so your membership access will not be cut off.
Let me understand that. You tell people that their auto-renewal is cancelled, their membership closure is planned, yet you prepare to get money from them behind their back? What kind of people are behind chess.com? Mafia?

It's not because I don't like chess. It's because I really dislike chess.com ways of ripping people.
Would my credit card have not expired, I'm sure I'd been robbed of 46 €.
