in your opinion should this game be adjudicated?

It's not the exact same position, but very similar.

He's on vacation again.
I guess I'll just give him what he wants and resign.
It's not like I could have possibly won the game. Maybe a draw if I had tried really hard...

Why not simply out-wait him? it's not like it costs you anything to have a slow game in your list.
What's the rush?

This seems inconsistent with your original post -- which side of this position are you playing exactly?

I'm playing the side that's up by a knight and 4 pawns.

I think it's called sarcasm...
I'd say just carry on and move when you can, mention it to the TD. I have to agree with the OP's annoyance about this, but I would wait until it's the last game in the round before causing too much fuss since the opponent isn't acting outside the rules.

I absolutely agree. I have a agme going against the same player, and we have been playing since 18 March 2010. 7 months. And the 2nd game in the tournament is yet to come! I have been waiting for weeks in this dead won pawn ending. I have made conditionals too.

Kacparov, I often check my opponent's game list and I had already seen his game against you. Absolutely ridiculous.
Incidentally, at one point, tired of playing against this slow-moving player, I offered him the option of drawing my current game against him, which at that time was an even position, if he agreed to resign to the other game I was playing against him in which he was down by 4 pawns (a dead position). He sent me a message, which I would have forwarded to a staff member had it not been purged from my mailbox, in which he apologized for his behavior and blamed it on his being busy because his house was being painted, and offered me the option of drawing both games because it was better for our ratings that way!

Why not just wait? Its not like its a major investment of your time to check on a game.

LOL! Well, he's certainly a sly one. Sounds like Olaf's been breathing in too many of those paint fumes (how did the message get purged from your mailbox btw?).
Apparently when you are a non-paying member your messages don't stay in your mailbox forever.

Pretty much what I asked in post #5. Still waiting for an answer to this common-sense approach.
Offering draws or resigning won positions seems cowardly and likely to encourage the perpetrator, in the future.

Because I want to finish my online games at some point and take a break. I don't want to feel enslaved to this site.

I just dont understand all the posts whining about people taking the maximum amount of time they are allowed to take. Erik has fixed the vacation issue, so now if long games bother people then simply dont play them. Stick with 1-3 day games, and issue is resolved.

I've got a different but similar problem: this guy hs been on vacation for months, has 71 games going (last I checked), doesn't move in any of them, and logs on every day!
I have a tournament game that I've been dealing with for over 2 months. My opponent finally reached a dead position, but he still refuses to resign or move within a considerate time frame, and continues to milk the clock and delay the game as much as possible. If I make conditional moves, he often responds with only 1 move and ignores subsequent conditional moves, delaying the game for another 3 days. Obviously he is not in a hurry to finish losing this game and would rather punish me for defeating him. In your opinion, should this game be adjudicated?
