Are you trying to copy the whole spreadsheet or just a couple rows and columns? Which browser do you use? I use Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and Microsoft Excel. I copy just the part I want, and paste it right into the forum threads the same as I would paste anything else. I also make sure to only paste on a new blank line (I don't know if that makes a difference or not).
Insert table in forum thread?

Thanks for your response. I am just trying to copy a couple of columns and all the rows that have data. I use Firefox and Microsoft Excel - I doubt the difference between Firefox and IE7 would be a factor.
For your Turtles ladder do you just paste the name column or the number of the position also? When I pasted it seems to add cells rather than pasting over the existing cells which is what I thought would happen. For example it seems to push everything down and creat new cells below which for some reason I can't seem to erase and so the spreadsheet in the forum post gets very long with all of the extra cells on the bottom. Does that make any sense?
The only thing I can think to do is to eliminate the thread and paste a whole new spreadsheet into a blank edit window here at chess.com - but that doesn't seem like the way it should need to be done.
Any ideas?

Each time I update a ladder, I copy the 2 columns of data (place # and name) and however many rows that ladder has. Then when I edit my original post, I put my cursor at the end, hit backspace once (which deletes the whole table previously pasted in there), then I paste the new table in its place. And that's it.

Thanks, that's helpful. Especially 'put cursor at end, hit backspace (which deletes the whole table...'
Here is what I discovered: that does NOT work in Firefox, but it DOES work in IE7. Go figure!
I don't care much for IE7, but unless there is some setting in Firefox I can change looks like I'll have to use it.
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it!
Can anyone give me some help on how to insert a table in a forum thread?
I am trying to keep a thread about standings of a ladder tournament up to date as the results come in. Assuming I keep the actual results in an excel spreadsheet, how can I insert that in a thread? I've tried 'cutting and pasting' and I end up with major formatting problems. Is there a simple way to do this? Or is there some better way than what I'm trying?
I notice an 'insert table' menu option in some of the editing tools, but apparently not for the editing of a forum thread. Or am I missing something?
