A king with only a knight or bishop only against a king by itself is a draw. It is impossible to effect a mate. Read the rules on chess in the Book of Hoyle.

Why, if my opponent cannot mate me? Time is to make sure the game ends, so if I fail to mate with a queen and king, I should still get a draw if my opponent only has a king, otherwise, whoever has more time can just make random pre-moves to flag the other.

If you have insufficient material and "win" on time, it is a draw because you do not have enough material to win. Very useful in bullet games!
Why bother to have a clock or rules if you can't abide by them.
They ARE THE RULES & are equal for both sides.
Using your time efficiently is a part of the game. Does not matter if it is a bullet game or 3 days a move. You need to save time to finish them off.

If I run out of time with a queen and king, and my opponent has a lone king, the game DOES END, but in a draw because of the impossibility of mate
Otherwise, players could make random moves in a king and 2 knights endgame getting nowhere until someone flags, which is stupid
I think Chess . com should get back to the rules as stated by myself using the Book of Hoyle as mentioned previously by myself.

Chess isn’t about time management. That is an unpredictable variable. The only reason pre move exists if for bullet games, and predicting the opponents next move.
You said you had to go 12 or 13 minutes ago. I agree. It is very difficult to mate with a pair of horses. You have only so many moves to do so or it is a draw. I forget off hand. Is it 50?
