@Rickett2222;

Then disagree we shall. This professor recited a story, which was offered as a complete truth, almost a parable! Clearly it is stated "a large empty mayonnaise jar", which was not empty at all! The students had this story programmed into their minds, they believe they have received full information and never question it, the story remains faulty and those programmed with it, propagate it. This is proven by people reciting the same faulty story, they haven't thought outside of this story and develop cognitive dissonance about it, defending faulty logic as if it is complete and correct, which it is not.

The glass is half full of water, and half full of air, therefore it is full.

Not sure if your logic supersedes your intelligence or vice versa. So why was the jar not empty may I ask?

Is the jar full of air already full in your mind? And if it is then you are missing the components that can fill a jar with more then empty space full of air.

Look for the one that starts with "Plato was discoursing..."

And bowling.

Newkidonadonkey

i am inclined to consider bowling, snooker and darts more physical skills than chess, bridge, backgammon, monopoly,..

RobertJordan62

"the real cheaters are the ones that try to steal your money to repair the teeth of a grandmasters wife."

Is this some mixed-up translation of some Chinese proverb or something?

Wallacabayka

Do grandmasters' wives typically have bad teeth?

kiloNewton

ignore.

Iluvsmetuna

Quite so! Your brain whirrs around in your head like an outboard motor propeller when you play chess.

Newkidonadonkey

Sure, like that everything we do or think is a sport.

@robertjordan : the chess master to which i refer is timothy taylor. How this links to chess.com i leave up to your researching skills.

Whom shall I contact to make a complaint about a player who insulted me? (I would like him to be banned...)

A first-offender will not be banned for verbal abuse, but report him still. Here is the link:

Those people dishonor the game of chess while simultaneously demonstrating their lack of knowledge and ability. what goes around comes around. In the end, they are losers.

So click on this guy's ratings....

Playing chess is about having fun for 99% virtually all the time.  If trash-talk is part of the fun, then it is part of the fun.  "Dishonor the game of chess"?  If possible, practically every move I make defiles chess but more likely chess doesn't care at all.

Chess is a good vehicle for drinking games, stupid bets, trash talk, whatever...

kleelof

It wasn't until I came to Chess.com that I started to realize that trash talking WAS NOT a normal part of chess.

RobertJordan62

and kleelof...if you want to trash talk me when we play chess, that would be fine.  I usually give as good as I get, but if you win the trash talk game you will have my full respect.  It's actualy a little unfair because I have a daughter, a mother, and a sister...

So you're saying you're a girly man who sits down when he pees?

Laughing

kleelof

If I were ever to play chess in that environment again, I would be the best trash talker.

Those guys were COMPELTE patzers. I'm less of a patzer now. So I could dazzle them with my chess knowledge and make them feel inferior without using a single 4-letter word.

Man, the beer is catching up with me.

I had to read that half a dozen times before I got the joke.
